Indira Gandhi International Airport is situated in the New Delhi is a major gateway to India. It acts as a vital connector between India and other countries. This airport is named after former Prime Minister of India Smt.Indira Gandhi. The airport functions as the chief civilian air travel center for the National Capital Region of India. The airport was initially functioned by the Indian Air Force later its direction was channelized to the Airport Authority of India.
The Airport is furnished with state-of-the-art class (IIIA), a landing system making it usable even during heavy foggy weather. The Airport currently handles 13100 domestic and 9500 International passengers daily on an average. Indira Gandhi International Airport was consulted the 4th best airport award in the world and 'Best Improved Airport' in the Asia Pacific Region by Airport Council International.
Delhi airport possesses 2 terminals, domestic and international. The domestic terminal is Terminal 1 and international terminal is Terminal 2. The Domestic terminal is further split up into two sub terminals viz. Terminal 1A, Terminal 1B and Domestic Arrival Terminal. The International Terminal (Terminal II) possesses thirty five airlines flight for the major cities of the world.
Terminal 1A provides domestic airlines of the national Indian Airlines and its subsidiary, Alliance Air whereas terminal 1B take off private airlines namely Jet Airways, Air Deccan and Air Sahara and other private airlines. The road length among the 2 terminals is about 8 kms. The newly Terminal 3 building has the capability to deal with 33 million passengers yearly.
According to Government’s plan, Indira Gandhi International Airport is put forward to get privatized by the path of Joint Venture, to privatize the 4 metro airports for rendering world class terminals and other facilities to its passengers.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) renders a number of facilities to its passengers. The IGIA provides Left Luggage Facility, Banking, Money Exchange Service, Baggage Wrapping Service, STD / ISD Booths, Infant Lobby, Duty Free Shops, Automatic Flight Information System, 24 hour pharmacy, Railway Reservation Counter, Duty Free Shops and snacks bars and more.
There are preparations for refreshments and meals in the bars and restaurants located at the terminals. The details of incoming and outgoing flights operating from the Domestic Terminal are:
Terminal 1A:

Indian (Agartala, Agra, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Goa, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Raipur and all major Indian cities)

Alliance Air (Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Vadodara)

Terminal 1B:

Indira Gandhi International Airport features 2 parallel runways and a serial runway. These are Runway 11/29 (14,534 ft (4430m)) with CAT IIIB ILS on both sides and the main runway 10/28 (12,500 ft (3,810 m)) as well as an auxiliary runway 09/27 (9,229 ft (2,813 m)). Runway 10/28 and Runway 11/29 are the only 2 in South Asia to have been furnished with the CAT III-B instrument landing system. In the winter of 2005 there were a record number of commotions at New Delhi airport due to mist. In the month of September 2008, the IGIA airport introduced a 4.43 km long runway, scoring one of the most foresighted functional runways in Asia.
